Julie & Sam: SLC Urban Engagements
Sam and Julie wanted colorful engagements in March, a tall order when in Utah. The snow was melting, however the grass underneath was brown and nothing is in bloom yet. Lucky for us we found some amazing graffiti and colorful walls in Salt Lake City that fit perfectly with their fun and bright personalities!
Cool side note: It was Sam’s birthday when we took their engagements. Happy (now belated) Birthday Sam!
I LOVED this graffiti!

This is a crazy awesome loading dock that I haven’t used in a while! I was so happy to see it was stil there and as cool as always!

Jessie & Mark were one of the lucky winners of a free engagement session that I gave away at the Provo Bridal Fair! This was the first professional session I have done since having my baby and it was great to get back into it! I couldn’t have asked for a better couple to start off my year with. They were so much fun to work with! We went to Utah Lake and froze our little buns off for some great photographs! They were so willing to do anything for a good image including stomp around in the mud and slush to get a good angle or background. Jessie was smart and brought boots so that helped as well!
We started off with this tree. Why? Because its AMAZING! Seriously, I saw it and just new we had to get a shot with it.

Gorgeous snow covered mountain ranges? Yes, please!

Jessie’s friends came to help with lighting and one of them suggested using these reeds for a shot. Great idea I think! They turned out so great! Some of my favorites from the session, actually!

Then sunset began. Oh, how I had missed photographing sunsets! Throughout my maternity leave I had seen gorgeous sunsets and wished I was photographing them!

Their true personalities came out.

While I was doing close up shots of Jessie’s ring in the snow, Mark saw a better place to photograph it! I ended up LOVING this photograph more than the one I thought of. I believe some of the best art is a collaboration of minds and talents, so thanks for the great idea Mark!

Stephanie & Shane: Anniversary Photographs
Stephanie & Shane love to goof off and have fun with each other. I think this is why we get along so well.
Here are some of my favorite goof off or “outtake” photographs from their session.

This series is my favorite! It was Stephanie’s brillant idea!

To see all the photographs check out their gallery on my online proofing site. You can purchase prints or digital downloads there!

Stephanie & Shane: Anniversary Photographs
Stephanie & Shane were one of my favorite couples to work with last year. They were married last summer in the Manti, Utah LDS temple. For their Christmas cards this year we went out when the fall leaves were golden in the orchards and photographed them. It was SO much fun! I love when couples photograph their lives together, especially before kids come along (because after that, let’s be honest most of the photos are of the kids not the parents). I don’t think there was a moment we were not laughing or joking around. I love their laid back and FUN personalities!

I LOVE shooting through foliage to get some texture in the foreground of images. I handed my camera to my assistant and climbing into a very low tree. Stephanie and Shane and my assistant were so nice to help this ridiculous 8-month pregnant woman get into this tree. They were concerned, but I promised that I 1) wouldn’t fall and 2) that they would love the shots I got up there. I kept my promise on both accounts.
These are among my favorite photos of the session!

Shane is a mountain logger with his dad and brothers. Coolest job EVER, right!? He requested a photograph with the mountains and I was more than happy to oblige! Because of how bright the mountains were I used a flash shooting through a soft box off to camera left to lighten their faces. I LOVE the shot!

Check out Monday’s blog for the rest of the photographs! I am doing a separate post with all the funny photos of Stephanie and Shane goofing off. It will contain some of my favorites! Have an amazing weekend ya’ll!

Photography Lighting Workshop!!!!
I am teaming up with Brekke Felt of Felt Photography for an amazing workshop on lighting! We will focus on using auxiliary lighting indoors and outdoors to make even the worst lighting situations produce great photographs! It will be November 10th from 11-2pm in Pleasant Grove. How you use light is arguably one of the most important aspects of photography, so this workshop is very important!
I will be focusing on lighting indoors using bounce flash & off camera flash so you can be confident you will get great photographs despite the poor lighting situations (such as receptions). These principles can also be used for night time and sunset photographs.
The technics we will teach you can transform your photography and your business. Since learning OCF I have cut my editing time in half because I get it right in the camera and less post is needed. I have also been able to raise my prices as the quality of my work skyrocketed with OCF.
Let me know if you are interested. Cost would only be $75 for 3 hours of AMAZING instruction and practice with live models.
You can reserve your spot at the link below:

Nik & Tiffany: Rio Tinto Real Salt Lake Soccer Stadium Engagements
Nik and Tiffany are awesome for so many reason. Mostly they are awesome because they LOVE soccer (is there a better sport out there!?). When they originally met me to book their wedding I chatted with them and soccer was brought up. I jokingly suggested we do their engagement photographs at the Rio Tinto Stadium, the home to the Real Salt Lake Professional Soccer team. Nik and Tiffany loved the idea so much they went to great lengths to set it up. After several phone calls, emails, and jumping through tons of hoops we got it scheduled!!! Apparently they only allow season ticket holders to even be considered to use the stadium for these type of things. We were thrilled to be able to photograph there!!!!
The escort from Rio Tinto we had during the session helped us maneuver through the huge stadium. She took us through the back halls and out the entrance used by the players to enter the field. It was SO COOL!!! We shot there first and got some AMAZING images of the whole stadium! We weren’t allowed to touch the grass (its real grass!) but we were more than happy to follow their rules!

Nik and Tiffany went to change into their Real Salt Lake Jerseys and we got some great shots with those as well!

This is one of my favorite shots!

Sorry these took so long to post. I had to go in and photoshop out any and all logos on banners/signs throughout the stadium. It took a while to do all the work and have them approved by the stadium before I could publish them. It was well worth the extra time with the amazing shots we got!!! I was so happy to get these unique soccer engagements for Tiffany and Nik!
